Plans Underway for Second Torres Memorial Golf Classic
High school friends of the late 2nd Lt. Andrew Torres, USMC, recently met with staff of the Huntington Medical Research Institutes to discuss the progress of strategic cancer research that will be funded by the Second Annual Golf Classic. The fundraiser is scheduled for Monday, April 3, at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club.
Committee members from the Flintridge Prep Class of 1998 include Matt Linder, Geoff Chandler, Rishi Saghal, Noelle Ito, Whitney Railsback and Chris Mang.
Prep classmates Matt Linder and Noelle Ito designed the fliers and posters for this year's event.
"We hope the community will come out and support the event to celebrate the life of Andrew Torres and to help find a cure for cancer, " said Ito. Another classmate, Matt Linder, arranged the Web version of the poster, available at www.andrewtorres.org. The posters will be distributed to merchants in La Cañada and Pasadena next week.
The fundraiser is a family affair. "We have received many donations for our silent auction and tee prizes," said Barbara Ito, Noelle's mother. This year's donations include United States Marine Corps memorabilia, jewelry and gift certificates to amusement parks and restaurants.
